The First Nations University of Canada is one of the most prestigious educational institutes located in Canada. Owned by First Nations, which are the predominant indigenous people residing in Canada south of the Arctic Circle, this institute is located in Saskatchewan, while other campuses are situated in Saskatoon, Regina, as well as Prince Albert. In May 1976, there was a federation agreement between the University of Regina and the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, subsequent to which the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College (SIFC) came into existence. During the fall of 1976, the SIFC opened its doors for students and started offering different programs including Indian Teacher Education, Indian Languages, Indian Studies, and Fine Arts (Indian Art, Indian Art History).

Ever since 1983, the university signed more than twenty-five agreements with Indigenous peoples’ institutions situated in Asia, South and Central America and Canada, apart from entering into agreements with different academic institutions located in diverse countries like Siberia (Russia), Inner Mongolia (China) and Tanzania. The year 2003 was of great importance for the university as on June 21, it changed its name to the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv). Registering a steady growth ever since 1976, the FNUniv boasts of a yearly enrolment of 3000 students. Moreover, since the year 1994, this prestigious university has also been a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). In the year 2016, the university observed 40 years of Indigenous Education and Indian Control of Indian Education.

Saskatchewan, which is the main location of the university, is a beautiful province located in Western Canada. It is also the only region that doesn’t have a natural border. Boasting of well-developed infrastructure, the city is home to a host of museums and galleries. The university is located in a wonderful location and is well-connected to the city’s major hotspots. Offering a diverse range of programs, the university caters to different needs and requirements. Some of the academic programs offered at the First Nations University of Canada are business and public administration, health studies, resource and environmental studies, science, community-based programs, indigenous social work, indigenous languages and linguistics, etc. In addition, students can also enroll themselves in online certificate of administration. This program includes diverse course under its purview including Introduction to First Nations Public Administration, First Nations Public Administration in Canada, Introduction to Managerial Accounting, etc. The university also offers library support to its off-campus students, which is one of the major benefits. Moreover, all three campuses of the university have libraries within the premises.
