The University of St. Thomas is a Roman Catholic, archdiocesan and liberal arts university. It was established in 1885. The private university is considered to be the largest private institution in Minnesota. In 1903, the university introduced a military program on campus and awarded its first degrees in 1915. Later on, in 1922, the university made the military training program optional for students. In the late 20th century, the institution introduced two notable programs in business administration and education. By 1977, the university became a co-educational institution and began admitting female students. This resulted in an increase in the number of enrolments. In 2001, the university developed the School of Law. The university is associated with the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, International Council of Universities of Saint Thomas Aquinas, and Associated College of the Twin Cities.
The main campus of the university, Saint Paul campus is spread across 78 acres of land. This campus accommodates over 2,400 students. It comprises 10 halls and apartments. The campus is close to cafes and restaurants. Also, it is located nearby some chemist shops, stationery shops, and departmental stores for convenience. Public transport is easily available from the campus. Many fests, events, quizzes, and competitions are organized by the university on the campus. In addition, the campus features a gathering spot that has many eatery shops, coffee shops, cafeterias, and a bowling center. A gym is also located within the campus for fitness facilities. Besides, exercising equipment, the gym also comprises volleyball, basketball and pickleball courts. It provides a cardio trainer as well.
The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. Notably, undergraduate programs consist of about 6,199 students and over 3,679 students are associated with postgraduate programs. The academic structure of the university comprises nine divisions, namely the College of Arts & Sciences, School of Law, Opus College of Business, School of Engineering, School of Education, School of Psychology, Dougherty Family College, School of Social Work and the School of Divinity.
