Founded as the College of St. Mary of the Springs on October 5, 1911. It was founded as an all-women’s school, becoming coeducational in 1964. The college changed its name to Ohio Dominican College on July 1, 1968. It became a university on July 1, 2002.
Ohio Dominican University is a private, liberal arts university situated in Columbus, Ohio. The university is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. It has got its religious affiliation from Roman Catholic (Dominican Order). It is an independent non-profit making organization.
The university offers Bachelor’s Degrees, Pre-Professional Programmes, Associate Degrees, Certificates, Licenses and Endorsements under Undergraduate, Graduate, Adult and Continuing Education Programmes. The Federal Work-Study program gives the student a scope to perform certain university jobs on minimum wage. The students, who have been awarded the opportunity program by the respective authorities, are only eligible for this position. There are specific help and support systems available for international students, military students, and transfer students. Over 40 student organizations are functioning inside the campus, based on the varied interests of the students. These clubs actively participate in the ODU community. There are regular events of seminars, workshops, and conferences that enrich the learning experience of the students.
Apart from the noteworthy academic infrastructure, ODU also offers excellent athletic opportunities for game enthusiasts. In Men’s Sports, there are Baseball, Basketball, Football, Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, and Track and Field. In Women’s Sports, there are Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Track and Field, and Volleyball.
