New College Durham

New College Durham was created through the merger between Durham Technical College and Neville’s Cross College in 1977. Neville’s Cross College was established as a teacher’s education college in 1921 by the Durham County Council, while Durham Technical College was founded in 1957 to offer training and support to the mining industry. The college is currently counted amongst County Durham’s largest providers of quality-assured Higher and Further Education. Also, it has received the QAA Quality Mark for exceeding or meeting UK expectations for standards and quality.

Situated in Framwellgate Moor in Durham, England, the college’s £35 million campus features a plethora of impressive buildings, modern facilities and first-rate resources to provide students with an invigorating learning environment. The spacious world-class buildings on the campus are equipped with the latest IT facilities, learning materials and resources. Besides being an excellent study area, the campus is also an amazing place to socialise and unwind. It houses a beauty and hair salon, gym, multipurpose sports hall, dance studio, shops, Starbucks, Costa Coffee and plenty of restaurants. The campus is home to a huge and well-stocked library accessible to all the students. It also offers other facilities like free parking, external accommodation options and conference hire service.

New College Durham offers numerous foundation, bachelor’s, master’s, professional and apprentice programmes in a variety of fields including arts, design, business, management, engineering, counselling, education, media, health, social work, sports and tourism. It offers over 70 apprenticeship pathways and collaborates with more than 350 employers. The college is listed amongst County Durham’s largest Sixth Form Centres and has an excellent team of distinguished teachers. It is home to over 200 international students from around the globe. 93% of the college’s further education students progress to further study or employment. The success rates for apprenticeships consistently remain higher than the national average.

New College Durham has produced a number of highly successful and notable graduates over the years. Ian Lavery is the Labour Party’s chairman and has formerly served as the president of the National Union of Mineworkers. David Anderson is an accomplished politician and the former Member of Parliament for Blaydon. John Cummings used to be the Member of Parliament for Easington. Stephen Hughes is a successful politician who used to serve in the European Parliament. Paul A. Young is a well-known English pâtissier and chocolatier. Lee Ridley is a popular stand-up comedian, best known by his stage name, Lost Voice Guy. Paul Youll is a fantasy and science fiction artist and illustrator.
