Mount Aloysius College is a private Catholic college in Cresson, Pennsylvania. It was established in 1853 and led under the custom of the Sisters of Mercy. The foundation became Mount Aloysius Junior College in 1939 and later became Mount Aloysius College in 1991 after amending its charter to allow the conferment of bachelor’s degrees. It is in the Allegheny Mountains district of west-focal Pennsylvania.
The college is a liberal art that grants associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in the arts and sciences fields. Approximately 1,300 full-time students are enrolled at the college. Ten buildings compose the administration, academic, athletic, and residential areas of Mount Aloysius College’s 193-acre campus. The College Library is located in a modern, 31,000 square-foot facility that was opened in 1995. It offers a rich and varied collection of print, electronic, and other non-print materials that have been developed to support the curricula in all disciplines. In addition to a print collection of 75,000 books, the library holds 150,000 ebook titles, a small collection of print journals, DVDs, audio recordings, and laptop computers.
The Mount Aloysius College Honors Scholars Program is intended for profoundly motivated students of every academic discipline. Students who meet the criteria and are members of the Honors Scholars Program will take specially designed honors courses. These courses will give a thorough, creative investigation of a topic in a class group. Educators within this program are picked for their excellence as teaching scholars and furnish students with a challenging curriculum. A special committee promotes, supports, and recognizes both primary and secondary research by students at Mount Aloysius College. The committee is responsible for organizing and implementing a Research Symposium to highlight the work of undergraduate and graduate students at least once during the academic year.
Service-Learning at Mount Aloysius College is a technique of instruction wherein students gain proficiency with the content of the curriculum while effectively participating and reflecting on experiences that benefit both the community and the students. The Office of Career Development’s aim is to proactively help students with career planning activities from matriculation to beyond graduation. Educational opportunities range from character and interest inventories to decide career direction to the preparation of professional materials and skills related to the job, internship, and graduate school search process. The workplace will acquaint students with professional career resources, give information on community and campus career events, and allow access to employer job postings. It also provides area employers with resources to promote professional opportunities on campus. The office promotes a holistic and educational environment through various opportunities and events that center around the career objectives identified with the individual student.
Mount Aloysius offers many scholarships which can be found in three different categories, namely Institutional Grants/Scholarships and Fellowships, Outside Scholarships, and Endowed and Alumni Book Scholarships.
Mount Aloysius College has created many talented and notable graduates. Patricia Egan Jones is a politician who has represented the 5th Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly since 2015.
