Delaware State University

Delaware State University (DSU) was established on May 15, 1891. The university was first called The Delaware College for Colored Students as it was set up for the Blacks as per the provisions of the Morrill Act of 1890. The university is also proud to be the country’s first land-grant educational institution. The core values of the university are community, integrity, diversity, scholarship, and outreach. The motto of the university is “Enter to Learn, Go Forth and Serve.” It is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), as well as by six specialized academic accrediting agencies.

DSU is one of the 148 schools to have been honored with the Tree Campus USA recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation. The main campus is located in the historic city of Dover, which is the capital of Delaware. The main campus spreads in an area of about 400 acres, featuring numerous buildings. There are two other satellite campuses – one in Georgetown and the other in Wilmington.

The University’s academic units are organized into the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, the College of Business, the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, and the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. The University offers 42 undergraduate degrees, which include unique and traditional majors such as Agriculture, Aviation, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Forensic Biology, Hospitality & Tourism Management, Kinesiology, Management, Mass Communications, Natural Resources, New Media in Arts, Nursing, Physics, Social Work and Textiles& Apparel Studies. The university offers 16 master’s degrees and also has five doctoral programs in Applied Chemistry, Educational Leadership, Interdisciplinary Applied Mathematics, and Mathematical Physics, Neuroscience, and Optics. The university houses around 5,054 students. It has around 212 faculty members within 17 academic departments. All teachers are well-qualified, out of which 188 faculty members possess a Ph.D. or a terminal degree. The student-to-faculty ratio at the university is 15:1.

The Student Employment Office at the university is dedicated to helping students locate jobs on campus as well as local off-campus jobs and ensuring that students maximize the value of their employment experiences.
