Calhoun Community College is hailed as one of the pioneers in developing the next generation of skilled, educated and talented workforce in the Alabama region. It is touted to be the leader in the field with its undying commitment to achieving excellence in service and teaching. This community college is supported by the state, follows a co-ed policy and an open admission process. The 110-acre campus is populated by almost 10,000 students who pursue their education in either of the 49 degree programmes or the 52 certifications/career programmes.

Calhoun Community college offers a diverse range of courses from Manufacturing to Visual Communications. It also offers courses in Automotive technology, computer information systems, child development, etc. Most of the courses offer certificates except a few like General Studies, Medical Lab technicians, Music technology, etc. Students get a certificate after practical nursing, unlike registered nursing. General Studies tops the popularity list for degree programmes followed by Advanced manufacturing and registered nursing.

The staff are highly qualified with close to 80% holding master’s degrees while almost 15% hold a doctorate. Calhoun is proudly associated with North Alabama for over 64 years. The students, on completion of their study, have successfully entered the workforce or went on to pursue higher degrees at other universities. Calhoun Community College strives to be distinct among its peers by continually challenging itself as well as the students to meet the ever-changing demands in the country. The training and the course are structured to meet the expectations of a wide and diverse community. There is a department called Calhoun’s Workforce Solutions which provides industrial training to the students. It is a member of the non-profit organization “Achieving the dream”, which works for ensuring that students achieve excellence in higher education.

Almost 55% of the student community are females, while men form the remaining 45%. Out of the total 9736 students (data for Fall batch 2018), 66% were part-timers. Also, 31% of the student population were Pell Grant recipients. The student community is predominantly made up of White/ Caucasians, who form around 67% of the student population. They are followed by African-Americans who are around 16% of the student population. Hispanics form 6% while others contribute to the remaining.
