Founded in 1909, Arkansas State University is a public research university. It is the second largest university in Arkansas in terms of enrollment. It covers an area of 1376 acres. The main campus of the university is in Jonesboro, Arkansas. There is an instructional site of the Jonesboro campus that is the Arkansas State University, Paragould.
Another campus was inaugurated in 2017 in Mexico. It is popularly known as the Arkansas State University, Queretaro. The various colleges maintained by the university are College of Agriculture, Neil Griffin College of Business, Engineering and Computer Science, Education and Behavioural Science, Nursing and health professionals, Liberal Arts and Communication, Sciences and Mathematics, Undergraduate Studies. Jonesboro, the site of the main campus, is the 5th largest city in Arkansas. Memphis, Little Rock, St. Louis and Nashville are easy accessibility from here. Arkansas State is a doctoral level university with a diverse student body, and 150 areas of study and both online and offline programs. Arkansas State University is known as the cultural and economic engine of Northeast Arkansas.
The university conducts an ACCUPLACER exam to place students in the correct level of coursework. Arkansas State University had endowment of $84.43 million as of 2019. The university provides financial aid. Scarlet, black, and white are the colours of the university and they are known as the Red Wolves. Howl and scarlet are their mascots.
Notable alumni of Arkansas State University are President of Hillsdale College Larry P. Arnn, NFL Player Fred Barnett, Governor of Arkansas Mike Beebe, Olympic bronze medalist in pole vaulting Earl Bell, comedian and voice of Squidward on SpongeBob SquarePants Rodger Bumpass, and poet Miller Williams, amongst many others.
