- The program is designed to provide coursework and experiences that can help students make the transition from undergraduate to medical, dental, optometry, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other health science professional programs
- The integrated curriculum is organ-based and modeled after the first two years of the curriculum at the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UASOM)
- Students will interact with and learn from faculty who teach in various professional programs, including UAB’s medical school, dental school, and Physician Assistant Studies program
- The MSBHS program is ideal for the following individuals:
- those working to improve their academic (GPA, standardized test score) and/or professional records immediately after undergraduate school to improve their applications to professional schools
- those transitioning to other careers requiring coursework in the biomedical and health sciences before applying to professional schools.
- those interested in taking coursework in the biomedical and health sciences modeled after a medical school curriculum (first two years) in preparation for similar studies
- Elective courses can be tailored to a student’s interest and preparation for a specific professional school. Elective courses are developed with student feedback and represent student ownership of the program
- The program model can also be beneficial to students who are returning to college after working in healthcare or other industry
