- The goal of the program is to develop scientists with strong interdisciplinary skills in research design, critical thinking, and communication
- All Microbiology students are required to take graduate coursework in courses from at least three of the following areas: Genetics, Physiology, and Metabolism; Pathogenic Microbiology; Environmental and Ecological Microbiology; Technology; and Bioinformatics, Genomics, and Statistics
- The major emphasis of the Master’s programs in Microbiology and Biological Sciences is to provide an environment for the student to learn how to think critically, pose questions and answer them by experimentation, perform library research, write and communicate in scientific formats, and develop into a mature, articulate, and competent scientist
- M.S. students need 30 credits: 24 of which are formal course credits (at least 12 of them at the 800 level) and 6 research credits (BIOL or MICR 8910)
- Students who will be supported through Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) are admitted only in the Fall semester and students who are supported through Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA), are accepted into either graduate program in both Fall and Spring Semesters
