Established post World War II in 1948, The Ryerson Institute of Technology was a result of demand for skilled tradespeople in Ontario, Canada. They had 250 enrolled students in the first year with courses in photography, costume design, and architecture. The title ‘polytechnic’ was given to Ryerson for their varied program options in 1963. After the Lake Devo construction, the campus grew with the number of enrolled students reaching up to 10,000. With excellent academics and research in 1993, Ryerson Polytechnic received the university rank. The university reached the current title ‘Ryerson University’ in 2002.
