Carlow University is a Catholic university founded in 1929 by the sisters of mercy. The student body of the university is composed of 84% women and 16% men. The university has gone through various changes since its inception and is a leading varsity in the academic sphere. The university showcases Irish heritage and roots and attracts thousands of applicants every year for the admission. The founders of the college, the Sisters of Mercy, arrived in Pittsburgh in 1843 to set up an academy. In 1929, Mount Mercy College was established, which changed in the subsequent years. The college started admitting men in the year 1945. In 2004, Carlow College officially transitioned to Carlow University in 2004 and appointed the first lady president of the college, Dr. Mary Hines.

The main campus building houses a library, restaurants, gymnasium, and more amenities for the welfare of students. There are 14 buildings on 13 acres of land with different departments and technology centers. Carlow University offers grounds wellbeing and security administrations like a 24-hour foot, and vehicle watches, late-night transport/escort administration, 24-hour crisis phones, lit pathways/walkways, and controlled residence get to (key, security card, and so on).
