Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET) is the engineering college at Kennesaw State University. It commenced in March 1948 with only 116 students of whom 106 were veterans from the 2nd World War. What started as the Technical Institute, rechristened as Southern Technical Institute, and received recognition as a college-level school by the Department of Education of the U.S. It became the Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) in 1996 and on 1st November 2013, planning was set in motion for the merger of SPSU into the Kennesaw State University.
Finally, on July 1, 2015, SPCEET came into existence as a college under the Kennesaw State University, retaining its identification of Southern Polytechnic. SPCEET has a portfolio of 14 bachelor’s, 11 minors, and 6 master’s programs across disciplines of engineering and engineering technology. It is the second-largest college of engineering in Georgia with about 4500 students on its rolls. Located in Marietta, Georgia, the institute boasts of faculty that is best in industry and provides state-of-the-art facilities for imparting education to its students.
SPCEET has seven different departments of engineering. SPCEET offers several innovative, cross-functional master’s programs online, of which few are in collaboration with Business colleges offering a quite unique blend of technology and business management, equipping its students not only in technology but creating future business leaders for the industry. SPCEET had a student to faculty ratio of about 19 to 1 and insisted that its faculty had served either industry or conducted research in the subject of teaching. SPCEET also has facilities for seamless program transitions in a couple of programs under the Technical College System of Georgia. SPCEET has four research centers operating in its fold and places high emphasis on research. Its faculty is free to seek funding for independent research projects and SPCEET not only supports but extends its state-of-the-art facilities for research.
