Situated in Salt Lake, Utah, United States, University of Utah is a public research university. Being Utah’s flagship university, this university offers over a hundred programs with undergraduate majors and more than 92 programs with a graduate degree. This university has been distinguished among ‘Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity’ with ‘selective, higher transfer-in admissions’.
The University of Utah was first found in 1850 as the University of Deseret. It later closed down due to the shortage of funds as well as feeder schools. It was re-established in 1867 and was re-titled as the University of Utah in 1892. The university witnessed significant growth during the early 20th century. This university was the Olympic Village and organized its opening and closing ceremonies during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Spread over an area of 1,534 acres, University of Utah comprises of 17 colleges and schools in areas- architecture + planning, business, cultural & social transformation, dentistry, education, engineering, fine arts, health, honors college, humanities, law, medicine, mines & earth sciences, nursing, pharmacy, science, social & behavioral science and social work. It has close to 100 academic departments and numerous academic interdisciplinary programs.
This university has a division known as the University of Utah Health has over 14,000 faculty and staff. It is known to be Utah’s largest employers and contributes to millions of dollars in the form of tax revenue of Utah every year. It is the one and only university health care place in Utah.
It offers healthcare for patients living in Utah as well as neighboring states such as Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and a major portion of Nevada. This university health care system is also the training center of the state’s physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, and other health care professionals. The University of Utah also has a vast variety of areas of focus within its art department.
It has 5 academic units in its College of Fine Arts and three professional arts organizations. It also has a number of skits, dramatical performances, artistic exhibits, interesting concerts, off-beat film screenings and opportunities to talk to local and international artists every year. This university has a strong focus on the process of commercialization of its research. In 2019, the University of Utah received 547 million dollars for the method of its research spending. Moreover, this university generated 211.8 million dollars in the process of licensing income and recorded 69 startups.
